Children's basic memory processes, stress and maltreatment
Building upon methods and research utilized with normative populations, we examine extant assumptions regarding the effects of child maltreatment on memory. The effects of stress on basic memory processes is examined, and potential neurobiological changes relevant to memory development are examined. The impact of maltreatment-related sequelae (including dissociation and depression) on basic memory processes as well as false memories and suggestibility are also outlined. Although there is a clear need for additional research, the investigations that do exist reveal that maltreated children's basic memory processes are not reliably different from that of other, nonmaltreated children
Free stream turbulence and density ratio effects on the interaction region of a jet in a cross flow
Jets of low temperature air are introduced into the aft sections of gas turbine combustors for the purpose of cooling the high temperature gases and quenching the combustion reactions. Research studies, motivated by this complex flow field, have been executed by introducing a heated jet into the cross stream of a wind tunnel. The investigation by Kamotani and Greber stands as a prime example of such investigations and it serves as the principal reference for the present study. The low disturbance level of the cross stream, in their study and in similar research investigations, is compatible with an interest in identifying the basic features of this flow field. The influence of the prototypes' strongly disturbed cross flow is not, however, made apparent in these prior investigations
Direct nuclear-powered lasers
The development of direct nuclear pumped lasers is reviewed. Theoretical and experimental investigations of various methods of converting the energy of nuclear fission fragments to laser power are summarized. The development of direct nuclear pumped lasers was achieved. The basic processes involved in the production of a plasma by nuclear radiation were studied. Significant progress was accomplished in this area and a large amount of basic data on plasma formation and atomic and molecular processes leading to population inversions is available
Towards Graphene Nanoribbon-based Electronics
The successful fabrication of single layer graphene has greatly stimulated
the progress of the research on graphene. In this article, focusing on the
basic electronic and transport properties of graphene nanoribbons (GNRs), we
review the recent progress of experimental fabrication of GNRs, and the
theoretical and experimental investigations of physical properties and device
applications of GNRs. We also briefly discuss the research efforts on the spin
polarization of GNRs in relation to the edge states.Comment: 9pages,10figure
